Doin’ My Little Turn On The Catwalk

When I first spotted the John Paul Pet line of grooming supplies several years ago, I was at Northwest Pets. I loved seeing “Tested on Humans First” stamped boldly on the front of the bottles. I remember grinning at the idea of salon products for our already vain Shivers. However, when you have a cat affectionately nicknamed “The Stinky Old Lady,” well, let’s just say that I beeline for the grooming section of every pet store I set foot in now.

While Shivers generally got a bath about once a month when she was a younger cat (that being up until she turned 10), she gets them less often now. Unfortunately, she needs them more now than she did then. Yick. I don’t like putting that much stress on a cat with an already compromised immune system, though, especially in cold weather. So I started using the Waterless Foam Shampoo from the John Paul Pet line of products.

I like it.

Vetbasis Petlettes Bath Alternative

The first thing I noticed was how like baby wipes the Petlettes smelled. Not pleasant. The wipes are a generous 8.5X11”, which is larger than most. They have just enough texture to aid with wiping away foreign matter, and have exactly the right amount of moisture.

We ran one over Oswald after he got particularly dusty running around underneath some shelving. Like a black evening dress, everything shows up on black cats. He took the whole thing remarkably well. Afterwards, however, his fur was kind of tacky. The last thing we need is a kitty with newly sticky fur. It kind of defeats the purpose of cleaning him up.

I like that the wipes are stated as being alcohol free, but I don’t like that the ingredients aren’t listed on the packaging.

So thumbs-up on the size and consistency of the wipes, but the residue left behind lessened the duration of kitty cleanliness by making their fur sticky.

Our kitties gave it a two out of four paw rating.
